Scientific Program
Requirements of the program:
  1. The program must be completed within one year
  2. The program has to be completed in the order listed in the nest section.
  3. Portfolio images have to be generated and the candidates have to collect them personally after attending the basic ultrasound critical care course.
Program details
  1. Attending basic ultrasound critical care course: The participants will first attend basic Ultrasound course in Critical Care. In this course:
    1. The key elements of Critical care ultrasonography shall be reviewed
    2. The participants shall practice ultrasound imaging on human models
    3. The participants shall learn the way to use ultrasound images as indicators of pathologic findings.
    4. Through case based interpretation, the faculty shall teach the participants how to interpret the pathological findings into actual diagnosis.
  1. Completion of online portfolio: Once the basic course is complete, participants shall be allowed to enrol in the final assessment course to get advanced critical care ultrasound certificate. To enrol, the participants must enrol in the portfolio:
    1. Online portfolio shall entail the faculty reviewing of ultrasound video clips.
    2. The critical care training shall include critical care ultrasonography shall entail bedside scanning activity, a key element of the training.
    3. The participants shall assemble the portfolio specific images and these images shall then be reviewed and approved by a faculty member.
    4. The online portfolio mode shall create a peer to peer training routine that shall help inculcate self discipline among the participants who can then assemble the right portfolio.
    5. Portfolio shall contain images from an ICU based ultrasound machine with the right imaging capability.
    6. Once the images are recorded, they need to be directly exported to the portfolio from the machine.
    7. The purpose of portfolio is to check the qualities of images. Therefore, ultrasounds of specific diseases are not required. The goal of the portfolio is to come up with the best quality images with the potential to provide near-perfect diagnosis.
  2. Final live comprehensive assessment for advanced critical care ultrasound certificate: A final exam shall then take place
    1. After all the previous requirements have been met, the participants can take the exam to acquire advanced critical care ultrasound certificate or Certificate of Completion.
    2. Once every year, the participants are offered to complete this exam during advanced critical care ultrasound course.

What is the requirements for portfolio image collection?

For the completion of the program, a port folio of 100 images is to be made. They are divided as follows:

  1. Images for 10 Cardiac studies where 50 images shall be taken in total:
    1. Parasternal long axis view
    2. Parasternal short axis view
    3. Apical four-chamber view
    4. Subcostal long axis view
    5. Inferior vena cava longitudinal view
  1. Images of 4 Lung or pleural studies where 12 images shall be taken in total
    1. Pleural effusion (any size)
    2. Sliding lung
    3. Consolidation
  1. Images of 4 abdominal studies with a total of 16 images taken in total:
    1. Left kidney longitudinal view with splenorenal space
    2. Right kidney longitudinal view with hepatorenal recess
    3. Abdominal aorta longitudinal view
    4. Bladder transverse view
  1. Images of vascular DVT study where a total of 22 images shall be required in total:
    1. Right common femoral vein at saphenous intake with compression
    2. Left common femoral vein at saphenous intake with compression
    3. Right superficial femoral vein with compression
    4. Left superficial femoral vein with compression
    5. Right popliteal vein with compression
    6. Left popliteal vein with compression
